Kate,
I didn't organize the group. My Plurk friends were sharing so many ed tech resources and we were looking for a way to bookmark them for use later. Someone created the Diig network for our Plurk group. If someone has a bad day, then other provide encouragement. We join in on celebrations. It's a nice genteel learning community. It was not planned; it just happened. Nice, isn't it?

Ouida

Are you familiar with Plurk?

Our staff use a resident management software program to organise care for the residents. A large portion of the people we employ have had little or no experience with computers and therefore the introductiuion of this system has been a big change for them. However it has also offered the opportunity to broaden our mehtod of delivery of education and the range of tools we use. Convincing management that we need to move in this direction is also difficult. Staff shortages in our industry and the difficulty in arranging formal education sessions for staff to attend have prompted me to look to other ways to deliver education. I have created a blog as the first step to making them familiar and comfortable with technology but while staff are initially enthusiastic they are reluctant to participate in this way. Management at state level have expressed interest in an elearning program but as yet this has not translated into any concrete support for the project. However I am still hopeful that eventually this will happen.

thanks, thats a great blog post and commentary.
We are basically fishing at present for an alternative that we can use to create courses etc that can then sit within the bb framework that we are more or less stuck with for a generation more at least. So open source and easy to implement are key. We have some in house experience with drupal, and good links with penn state so are hoping to ride on their backs a little

as always, a problem of resources!!

thanks for the links to moodle sites kate, i'll have a good look at them
I wasnt particularly down on moodle, but the guys at pen state made a good argument why drupal was potentially more powerful and flexible

see http://elearning.psu.edu/drupalineducation/moodle

interested to hear your thoughts on that...

Although we live in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, we come to Victoria, BC about every 2 or 3 years to stay with very close friends. And I do love Vancouver (when it is not raining!). This Victoria thing must be catchy.

Cheers

Not at lot at the moment but would like to introduce more into my work. At this point in time have fairly limited knowledge of what's available and how to use them. Hoping to learn more here.

Confessions of a Blogger Drop Out!

I confess I have started multiple blogs with the most ambitious intentions of expressing daily discoveries, thoughts and connections about learning and technology. I can't seem to stick with the regular process of publishing creative posts and I fight the 'blogging inferiority complex' since I inevitably compare my rudimentary attempts against other blogging experts.

So how have I tried to conquer this floundering blogging habit? By refocusing my efforts to communicate more personal learning pu… Continue

My Favourite Web 2.0 Tools

Here's a clipcast of some of my favourite web 2.0 tools.

Clipmarks (clipmarks.com) is a feature you can add to your web browser. Instead of distributing a long list of links you can 'take a clip' of a selected website and create a Clipcast that shows your favourite websites. Then you can post your Clipcast on your blog, website, Moodle Page (and yes...even your Blackboard page:)

The real value of this format is that every time I 'clip' a website and save it, this Clipcast will also be updated… Continue
